What to Expect at your Newborn Session

ON THE FENCE ABOUT BOOKING A NEWBORN SESSION?

That's ok! There are a lot of unknowns when it comes to your little one's arrival and postpartum: the timing, the delivery, the hospital stay, the recovery, etc. I've been there, I get it. Here are a few things that might help put your overworked mind (and nerves) at ease:

1. Worried about your recovery and settling in? One of the special things about lifestyle sessions is that there is more flexibility on the timing. The best time is within the first 2 weeks, BUT since we're not doing any super complicated wrapping and posing, you don't need to worry about it so much. I've done newborn sessions up to 8 weeks old and guess what? They're still adorable!

2. You don't have to leave your house and you don't have to dress up. Lifestyle sessions are meant to highlight your new bub in your home, with you. Just as you are. This could mean in your pjs and slippers, or dressed to the nines. It's totally up to you and what you want.

3. These sessions are super relaxed. We follow baby's lead - that means we take breaks for feeding, burping, changing, rocking, etc. It actually works perfectly this way because those little moments make for some of the best photos anyway - those are the little things you will want to remember.

4. When I first arrive, I’ll take a few minutes to introduce myself and let everyone warm up to me, especially any siblings or pets. Once everyone is a little more comfortable, I'll take a look around your home and find the lighting and spots that I like. I might take over a bit, and move things around (with your permission, of course)!

5. The session will be super relaxed and we will just go with the flow. If baby sleeps, great! If not, great! They are the little star of the show and it’s their way or the highway. Generally sessions last around 2 hours, but they can be shorter or longer depending on lots of variables: baby needing to eat, multiple changes, getting baby to sleep, etc. There’s no need to rush.

6. I LOVE working with siblings and pets! They are always make everything more interesting and it’s so fun to see your big kid (or fur-baby) next to your tiny new arrival. I like to bring snacks or a little present along to help get everyone excited and willing to participate.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me! I absolutely adore babies and I’m always thrilled when I get to help capture memories of their new little lives.
